Ivaylo Angelov is a contemporary abstract painter born in 1975 in Bulgaria, residing and working in Long Beach, CA. Influenced by the Soviet Avant-garde and the CoBrA movement, Angelov’s bold acrylic paintings fuse vivid textures, color, and line into dynamic, map-like abstractions. Balancing spontaneity with precision, his work invites viewers on a chromatic journey through shape and form.
Trained under renowned scenographer and painter Plamen Bonev, Angelov discovered his passion for abstraction at the National Puppet Theatre in Blagoevgrad.
A 2003 graduate of Laguna College of Art & Design, he has spent decades in the LA animation scene, working on iconic shows like Family Guy and The Simpsons.
His personal work can be seen in Quorum Gallery in Laguna Beach CA, LagunaArt Gallery in Mission Viejo CA, and at the upcoming guest artist exhibition at the renowned Sandstone Gallery in Laguna Beach CA(July 2025). Angelov’s paintings have been a part of numerous regional and international group exhibitions, most notably – Four Person Group Show at DAMA Gallery in DTLA [2024], The Long Beach Museum of Art 75th Celebration exhibit (2025), and the Duo exhibit “Light Streaks,” with projection mapping artist Kati Angelov, realized at Loiter Galleries, DTLB(2024-25).
